Egyptian Alabaster Candle Holder - Large
Alabaster, a mineral composite similar in appearance to marble, has been prized for millennia for its ethereal translucence. Color variations naturally occur in this stone, from pure milky white to pale pink to warm burnished rust and peach. Formed through sedimentary evaporation and the marbling of colors tells a unique geological story, millennia in the making.
Casa Berbere's handcrafted alabaster is from a few select commercial Egyptian quarries that we have consistently procured from over the past 50 years. Quarries, barring some modern innovation, have operated similarly since the time of the Old Kingdom. Quarries that through us have supplied alabaster into many of the world's top nightclubs, restaurants, and hotels.
Alabaster today isn't any different from the alabaster of Cleopatra's time, as it was of Menes, three thousand years her predecessor, the first ruler to unite Upper and Lower Egypt. Take a walk back in time, five thousand years or so, when alabaster votives lit streets, homes, and the interiors of the first pyramids. When diffused, soft ethereal light ushered in rituals, stories - tales of gods and the creation of the cosmos. Bring some of that much needed light into your space.
This large Alabaster Candle Holder measures 3.25" in diameter and stands 5.25" high.
